Caution - These can be very busy places involving vehicle movements and refueling

If an event starts at 07:00, you can expect service barges to start arriving before then so as to get set up. It's also probable that there will be catering vans and tyre vans, which should be positioned in their own defined areas.

Space also needs allocating to display results and handouts to competitors.

On arrival locate where the nearest emergency phone is, whether a special area has been set aside for refuelling and what safety cover is required (usually in conjunction with either the Rescue Unit or Emergency Services crew if allocated).

It is also worth remembering that you cannot stop the Press or Public entering Service Halts - indeed they are usually highlighted as a place to visit - so remain polite and tactful at all times. With this in mind it is usually worth trying to establish two entrances/exits from the Service Halt, i.e. one for vehicles and one for pedestrians (some stakes and lengths of rally tape will usually suffice).

Remember

  • The only vehicles allowed in should be Rally Cars, Service Barges and Management Cars clearly displaying the appropriate rally plates.

  • Always give priority to competing cars and ask barges/management cars which are arriving to move to one side so that the competitors can get in.

  • If there is a designated refuelling area, it should be CLEARLY MARKED, must only take place in that area, and adequate Fire Cover should be provided.(If there is no designated Fire Cover, then safety is the responsibility of the team refuelling).

  • Time Controls at Service Halts are similar to those at Arrival Time Controls, but instead of a time in and start time the control issues a time in and time out.

  • Service Halt Time Controls will normally be staffed by two marshals

  • If an event is running late, Organisers may cut service time.
