The finish of a Special Stage is made up of two
inter-related components, namely the Flying Finish and Stop Line.
As it's name suggests the competitors pass the Flying
Finish at competitive speeds, then slow down and come to rest at the Stop Line.
The time entered on the competitors Time Card is the time
they crossed the Flying Finish point, relayed to the Stop Line, rather than the
time they reach at the Stop Line.
-
The stop Line will usually be staffed by two or more
marshals
-
They will also be equipped with a Rally Clock and Check
Sheet
-
Once information is passed to them by the Flying Finish
Marshals, using field telephone or buzzer, it is recorded on their check
sheet.
-
When the competitor reaches the Stop Line the supplied
details are copied to the competitors Time Card
-
If it is dark or muddy, car number details are usually
advised back to the Flying Finish Marshals for their check sheet
-
The Stop Line Marshals also record the 'bingo' or
previous car number details on their Check Sheet. (Any discrepancies are
noted and advised to the Stop Line radio car for checking with Start Line)
-
Stop Line Marshals should also note any details of cars
off in stage as advised by the competitor (details to include ; if clear of
the stage, approximate location, whether an OK or SOS board was being
displayed).
-
The competitors time at the Flying Finish, as entered
onto their Time Card, will determine their time to arrive at the next
Special Stage, Passage Control or Service Halt, as appropriate.
As well as the Stop Line Marshals, you are also likely to
find :-
-
Stage Safety Officer - on Internationals located at Stop
Line
-
Stop radio car(s) - possibly more than one depending on
radio frequencies being used.
