Timekeepers are appointed and Licensed annually by the MSA, and subdivided into groups according to their specialisation, ability and experience. They must be of a suitable age and physically capable of meeting the requirements of their grade. The MSA reserves the right to revoke an appointment at any time. Initial application for appointment should be made on the Officials' Licence Application form available from the MSA, accompanied where appropriate by a recommendation from the Club or Timekeeper for whom the applicant has carried out duties. Except for Trainees, a fee is payable for the annual appointment and includes the cost of the Year Book containing the Motor Sport Regulations. Newly appointed Timekeepers will be required to commence as Assistant or Trainee, but a higher grade appointment may be given to suitably qualified applicants at the discretion of the Appointments Panel. The Timekeepers Appointment Panel for Rally will comprise ; Eric Cowcill, M Gaskell, DG Rees, Brian Snape, and Lloyd Walker , with the Rally Timekeeping Training Coordinator being Brian Snape.
