Start Radio

These are the duties of a Start Radio on most MSA licensed rallies.

Start Radio will need to advise Control :-

  • When each Official Car enters the stage

  • The time that the ZERO CARS enter stage *

  • The time and number of the first competitor car to enter stage

  • If there is a stoppage the numbers of the last 3 competitor cars entering stage and the total number of competitors having entered the stage

  • The number and time of the first competitor car to enter the stage after a stage stoppage

  • The length/total time of the stage stoppage

  • The numbers of the last 3 competitor cars to enter the stage, the time of the last competitor car entering stage and the total number of competitors entering stage

  • When the Stage Closing Car enters stage

* Remember that these officials cars should not be included in your total cars into stage, this should be the total number of competitor cars.

Instage Radio

These are the duties of an Instage Radio on most MSA licensed rallies.

  • Maintain your radio checksheet

  • You need to record every car that passes your location (Both Officials and Competitors, but only including competitors in your total)

  • Do not leave your radio un-attended without first obtaining authorisation from Control

  • Collate safety information from marshals within your sector and relay in a clear and concise manner to Control,

  • i.e. car number, location, is the stage clear, are the crew ok or do they require medical assistance.

  • Remember if radio reception between yourself and Control is not clear, try moving position (usually a couple of feet can work wonders)

  • If moving position slightly doesn't work, arrange to relay messages via another radio who can transmit & receive your signals clearly.

  • Wait for 'clear air time'  before transmitting

  • Be prepared to rebuild stage furniture within your immediate area

  • Do not 'stand down' until given clearance to do so by Control

  • Do not drive on the stage once 'live'
