Well we've all seen these nice shiny vans turn up at a stage start or on a circuit and now doubt we think that we know what is involved. Well lets take a moment or two to expand our knowledge. Did you know that there are 3 types of Rescue Unit that are likely to be encountered ? 1. Race Rescue Unit 2. Rally Rescue Unit 3. Stage Safety Unit There are differences between each, both in the personnel involved and the equipment that they carry, never mind their intended role. Whilst subsequent pages will provide more detailed information, it's worth noting : Race Rescue Unit - must be a suitably modified van or estate car capable of carrying crew and equipment in safety at speeds of 70-80 mph for sealed surface courses, for non-sealed surface courses a lower speed requirement is permitted but with the ability to maintain traction over such terrain is required. It must be clearly marked "RESCUE" and "AMBULANCE" as required and carry blue flashing beacons. The crew will include 1 x Doctor (or MSA registered Paramedic) and a minimum of 3 x fully licensed crew members. (For SPEED events only : the minimum requirement is for 2 fully licensed crew members with a Doctor or MSA registered Paramedic in attendance at the incident). At no time may there be more than 2 Trainees on a Licensed Rescue Unit Rally Rescue Unit - a suitably modified van etc. to carry the necessary equipment onto a rally stage at a reasonable speed. Also clearly marked "RESCUE" and "AMBULANCE" and with blue flashing beacons. The crew will consist of a minimum 2 x fully licensed crew members. The Doctor or MSA registered Paramedic may attend independently. At no time may there be more than 2 Trainees on a Licensed Rescue Unit Stage Safety Unit - To transport licensed crew and equipment to an incident so as to render the scene safe & provide First Aid and Spinal Immobilisation until the Rescue Unit arrives. It should be either a car, estate car or car derived van with suitable tyres and underbody protection which is clearly marked STAGE SAFETY UNIT. The crew will consist of 2 x fully licensed crew members, one of which may be replaced by a Doctor or MSA registered Paramedic. But don't just think that they are the only people you'll see, there are also The linked pages will give you a further understanding as to their roles and governance. Finally, but by no means least, are the Recovery Operators. |
